Accounting for locum and contractor GPs

You work shifts across practices or hospitals, invoice through your own ABN and get paid with no tax taken out. You need to know whether to charge GST, when your BAS is due and how much to set aside. And you would rather spend your evenings on anything other than a spreadsheet.

What we do for you

  • Monthly bookkeeping and reconciliations, with Xero and Dext set up for you
  • Your BAS, lodged on time if you are registered for GST
  • Your sole-trader or company tax return
  • Tax planning, and a dedicated accountant on a direct line for questions about GST, PSI and setting aside tax

What it costs

DrBooks Pro starts from $3,780 a year including GST, for a sole trader or a company. The price depends on your annual revenue: see your price.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pro work for a sole-trader locum?

Yes. Pro has a sole-trader version: your books, BAS (monthly or quarterly) and your tax return, with tax planning and a direct line to your accountant.

Can you help me decide whether to register for GST?

Yes. Your accountant looks at what you supply and to whom, and tells you whether you need to register.

I also earn a hospital salary. Can you include that?

Yes. As a sole trader, your salary and your locum income go in the same personal tax return, which Pro includes.

What if my income changes?

Your price follows your annual revenue. If it changes, your accountant moves you to the right revenue band.

Do you work with locums in every state?

Yes. DrBooks is an online service and works with doctors across Australia.
